Welcome to Portsmouth Breast Cancer Friends

A warm welcome to Portsmouth Breast Cancer Friends from our Management Committee. We are glad that you have found us.

We are run by volunteers who are all at different stages of our own breast cancer experience. We hope that you feel at home with us, and that you are able to connect with others who can understand and empathise with what you are going through. You are not alone.

If you are reading this page because you have received a diagnosis of breast cancer, and are looking for local support in Portsmouth UK, we would love to invite you to come along to one of our monthly meetings. You can also get in touch for more information via our contact page, or join our private Facebook group if it is difficult for you to meet with us in person.

Our monthly meetings are very informal. We often start with an update about any activities happening in the group and then enjoy the chance to talk with other group members. Sometimes we have visiting speakers or events. The group provides an opportunity to connect with others and share experiences and resources. There is no pressure to share information about yourself or to talk about your diagnosis. Equally, if you do wish to talk, you will find people who are ready to listen and who understand what you are going through.

If you are new to the group, our Committee members will look out for you and help introduce you to others.

We have social events at different times during the year, and sometimes people will meet outside of the main meetings for a chat or to go for a walk together. We have members of different ages and stages of their cancer experience, and many of us have found ‘our people’ within the group.

We understand that you need to do what is right for you at this time. Some people come to meetings regularly, or may dip in and out of the group over time. People may also choose to move on from the group when circumstances or needs change. There is no ‘right’ way to be part of the group. We have some guidelines to keep it a safe space and ensure that people feel supported. If you have any concerns, you can talk to us in confidence.

There is no charge to attend meetings. If you are able to make a small donation towards costs, you will find a collection box and a QR code at the meeting venue.
