Our guidelines for members

We have agreed some guidelines with our members to help us to be safe and feel safe as part of the group.

1. Be compassionate and courteous.

Treat others and yourself with respect and care. Help create the welcoming space you seek.

 2. Respect everyone’s privacy.

Being part of this group requires mutual trust. What’s shared in the group should stay in the group. Each member is responsible for deciding what they feel safe to share.

 3. This is a peer support, networking group.

The group is not for giving clinical advice. Questions about clinical matters (eg treatments, side effect management, specific conditions) should be raised with your appropriate medical professional. Suggestions and support from peers within the group are not a substitute for consulting your medical team or GP. We may discuss complementary therapies but we do not support the use of alternative therapies.

 4. The group is for people with a cancer diagnosis.

This group is open to people in the Portsmouth area who have had a breast cancer diagnosis, whether primary or secondary. It is inclusive. Whilst most members are women, we may have members who are male or who have another gender identity.

 5. Ask before promoting private ventures or groups.

Please check with the Committee before promoting private ventures or sharing links to other support groups.

6. Let the group’s Committee know if you have concerns.

If you hear or see something in this group that is upsetting, concerning, or that goes against the guidelines above, please bring it to the attention of a member of the Committee. Your concerns will be dealt with in confidence. In circumstances where safeguarding concerns are raised, information will only be shared on a ‘need to know basis’ with appropriate agencies, for example in emergency or life-threatening situations.
